Bridesmaid Dresses

Should you let your bridesmaids pick out their own dresses?

It is becoming more and more popular nowadays to let your Bridesmaids pick put their own dresses for your wedding. Why? Because you want them to be comfortable. Some women may be comfortable with a 3 foot bow hanging off their butt, others may not. Some may be comfortable with a little more cleavage, others may not. I remember being a bridesmaid in a wedding and my dress was two sizes too big, floor length and I felt like a fool! It was my first and only panic attack I ever had and it wasn’t even my day!

Here are some tips for letting your Bridesmaids pick their own dresses:

Length: It is important to let them know what length you want them in. Some may be more comfortable in one than others but if you want some similarity to the dresses make sure you let them know.

Color:  I was in one wedding where the bride said to buy a black dress, something I could wear again. AWESOME! I have the cutest little black dress to wear time and time again. And black is very easy! I was in another wedding where the bride told us to find what we liked in purple, any shade, any style. Well, after 3 of the bridesmaids bought their dresses at Davids Bridal all in the same shade I decided that it would be best to not be the oddball and get the same shade as well. So be as specific as you can be.

Shoes: Do you want them all to be matching or just they same color? Do you just want them to wear flats or wedges or three inch heels? Again be as specific as you can. The wedding I was in with the little black dress, the bride had us wear matching purple shoes. So that is always an option as well.

Comfort: Let them know that you want them to be comfortable but to stay within your guidelines. If possible go out shopping together and make sure you like the dress that they pick so they don’t waste their time or money.
